In the Judeo-Christian tradition that binds them, there is this first commandment with a promise:

“Honor your father and mother that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”

Capturing the special love that Amelia and Joshua have for their parents was very important to me as I shot this wedding film.

The first dance between Amelia and her father Richard was a moment I felt privileged to witness and hold forever in this video. I have known Mr. Kuhnen since I was a young boy. He has counseled me and offered his wisdom going back over 20 years now.

Lori, Joshua's mother, was another face that I could not take my camera off of. She lit up the room with her toast and looked so beautiful during her dance with her son.

For the film treatment, I had been inspired by the traditional wedding portraits I often saw growing up in our Sicilian family. There weren't many shots, just the most important ones—the timeless portraits where the family lineage is displayed for all future generations to see: This is where you come from.

The phrase "two families becoming one" has become so ubiquitous that we have lost its true meaning. I attempted my best to capture it here. Timelessness.

Amelia and Joshua did not make my job difficult. As you can see, they possess a very refined aesthetic that evokes this classic beauty. My short films are typically exactly that—short, 2-3 minutes. But I wanted something different for this. I allowed the shots to linger so that you could feel as if you were there alongside them; and I did not want to cut any moment short. I hope you enjoy "A Family Portrait".
