Episode 92 with Jay Norvell
The head football coach of the Nevada Wolf Pack has over 30+ years of experiencing coaching on the college level and in the National Football League.
His storytelling is priceless.
His journey and stories begin with the patriarch of his coaching tree, the late great Iowa Hawkeyes head coach, Hayden Fry.
Norvell played for and coached for Fry as did Bob, Mike, and Mark Stoops beginning in the early 1980s.
He would later become a member of Bob Stoops' staff at Oklahoma and head to the other side of the Red River to coach for Charlie Strong at Texas. His perspective from both sides of the rivalry is interesting to say the least.
During his one season at Texas, Norvell helped lead the Longhorns to an upset win over OU. He told the story about coaching against his good friend Bob Stoops and throwing a new wrinkle the Stoops brothers weren't prepared during that game at the Cotton Bowl.
Norvell expressed his love for Austin and the pride in having an opportunity to coach at both Texas and Oklahoma.
Jay received his first head coaching opportunity at Nevada in 2017 where he has rebuilt the Wolfpack program in Reno. So far, Norvell's Wolfpack are off to a 2-1 start including a win over the PAC 12's Cal Golden Bears.
Norvell has a brother who is an actor and his wife, Kim has a tremendous story. She has lived with and battled Cystic Fibrosis her entire life. Kim Norvell uses her platform to encourage, inform, and help raise money in the research to battle Cystic Fibrosis.
During segment, it's all about the Longhorns kicking off the Big 12 race in Austin against Texas Tech.
