Cristin McDonald Duffy grew up in the northwest suburbs. She is the oldest of four children. Her father was a partner at the law firm of Clausen Miller and her mother was a flight attendant for United Airlines.

Cristin attended St. Anne grade School and Barrington High School. She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in English and History. Cristin worked her way through Loyola Law School while working full time for Corboy and Demetriowriting briefs,and helping prepare personal injury cases for trial. After graduation, Cristin became a Cook County State’s Attorney to pursue justice for the hardworking people of Cook County at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. And for the last 23 years, she represented working men and women, and she advocated for them in the courtroom.

As an ASA, Cristin represented victims of crime and pursued offenders in the traffic, municipal and domestic violence divisions as well as felony review and in the felony trial division. During her career she tried hundreds of bench and jury trials including aggravated criminal sexual assault and murders.

In 2009, Cristin was recruited by the head of the State’s Attorney’s Civil Division to come to help bring in more revenue to Cook County. Cristin developed the State’s Attorney’s Office’s current administration hearings system. Specifically, Cristin pursued revenue owed to the County from a variety of offenders including outstanding amusement taxes owed by the Chicago Bears. While a life-long Bears’ fan, Cristin pursued outstanding Amusement tax owed by the Bears, and following a trial and appeal, brought in $9 million dollars owed to the tax payors of Cook County. Cristin handles complex civil matters including FOIA litigation, 2ndAmendment litigation and real estate tax matters. Cristin has handled dozens of appeals and argued in the Illinois Appellate Court 13 times. Cristin currently maintains a full case load while supervising 14 other attorneys.

As the Chair of the Training and Professional Development Committee, Cristin is also responsible for training and mentoring of all new ASAs in the Civil Division. Cristin was recently found highly qualified by the Chicago Bar Association to serve as a Cook County judge.
For nearly 20 years, Cristin and her husband John have lived in River Forest with their three children and two dogs. Her husband John is a partner at law firm in Chicago and he grew up in the northern suburbs. John’s parents immigrated from Ireland, his mother from County Limerick, and his father from County Donegal.

The Duffys are active in the community. They coach youth sports as well as volunteer and support local school as well as Cook County charities, including the Oak Park Food Pantry, Ronald McDonald House, Hepzibah House, Misericordia, Ignite and Special Olympics.

Cristin McDonald Duffy is ready to take her career to the Cook County bench. She has had a well-rounded career and extensive trial practice and she is ready to bring her skill set to the Cook County judiciary. Cristin will be an asset to the Cook County judiciary.
