The R32 Skyline sedan is the automotive jack of all trades. A convenient four door layout, peppy turbocharged 2.0L straight six, automatic transmission, and RWD platform provided the Japanese domestic market with a more efficient and reliable alternative to German rivals such as the 3 series. Our 1991 Type M only has 58K original miles on it. Finished in Jet Silver Metallic (KG1) the paint is in good shape, and the clearcoat is lustrous. Beyond the normal nicks and scuffs associated with a 28 year old vehicle, it's in beautiful condition. The iconic, angular Skyline profile has been accented with 17" SSR Integral S1, which look especially sleek. While the coupe and sedan share the exact same platform, the sedan makes day to day life a bit easier to get along with thanks to the easy access to the rear seats.
Much like the exterior, the interior has been kept all original. The interior is in better shape than cars half it's age, and much nicer than most Skylines you'll come across. The steering wheel doesn't show the typical wear one might expect, and the headliner and interior plastics are fantastic. The seats, front and rear, are in excellent condition, and have been well taken care of. The bolstering is premium, and this car is an ideal candidate for those with a long work commute. The door panels are in fantastic condition with virtually no wear, and the c-pillar trim is near perfect in our example. The dash is in excellent condition with no major sun damage though it does typical dash bubble common to almost all R32 models. All of the power amenities are functioning as expected. Power windows, door locks, power mirrors, and automatic climate control. The Kenwood head unit functions and the speakers pipe in the tunes. The condition of the interior grey thatched cloth, door cards, and headliner is nearly perfect.
With the exception of a few light modifications, the platform remains untouched and original. The silky smooth RB20DET fires up immediately and settles into a comfortable idle. The small displacement six sounds great as a polished Fujitsubo exhaust deepens the thrum of the exhaust. When accelerating, the acoustics are fantastic as an HPI intake gives a hearty whoosh on throttle, and accentuates the turbo flutter. Otherwise unmodified, the powerplant has received a fresh oil and filter service and is good for another 5000 maintenance-free kilometers. The automatic transmission shifts properly, and is does a great job of providing quick response. The driveline is stout, and the platform is surprisingly rattle-free for a vehicle of its age. The OEM suspension and brakes feel sturdy, and uneven road services and large bumps don't deter the chassis. A larger contact patch comes from the aforementioned SSR rolling stock, which takes the wheels up an inch in diameter over factory.
The classics sports sedan is alive and well, and this timeless four door proves it. The communicative platform, spacious interior and overall durability, make this 1991 Nissan Skyline a perfect, turn-key, Japanese Classic.
