The Nissan Silvia is the type of sports coupe that a purist can really appreciate. The clean crisp lines and traditional rear-drive proportions have aged well over the past three decades. Touting balanced handling, brisk acceleration, and a well laid out interior, this 1988 S13 still embodies those traits Finished in (TH1) Dark Blue Pearl, the body is in good shape, with only a few errant dings and paint chips from normal use. Up to date on maintenance, with the only 65K verified miles on the odometer, this Nissan is an instant Japanese Classic.

Nissan's simple interior design allows those behind the wheel to focus on what matters most, driving dynamics. However, there are some fantastic creature comforts Nissan included as standard equipment. Cold A/C and power windows, locks, and mirrors are all found on this model. With amber fogs and projector headlamps, a low slung dash and skinny A-pillars, this S13 has tons of visibility at daytime or night. The gray thatched seats are in good shape, although the driver's side has some accelerated bolster wear and thin material in sports. They feel soft to the touch and are comfortable for long drives, providing decent lumbar support. While the dash does have the typical s13 cracks, a custom Shevron dash cover has been installed to obscure the damage. The steering wheel is near mint, and the door cards and the headliner is tight and taut in their prospective locations. An option sunroof adds some much needed natural light to the cabin, although it is no longer functional. A sliding, opaque cover retracts back to cover it if you were wishing to keep interior temps down and block the sun. The Addzest audio system is functional, but we do recommend installing a US compliant head unit, as the LCD display in ours is on its last legs. As a last garnish, a new Nismo style shift knob sits atop the coveted manual gearbox.

Mechanically, this 1988 is in good working order. Spec'd from the factory with the most desirable power plant of the time, the CA18DET, the little four-cylinder turns over with the turn of a key. Benefitting from a freshly installed 12V battery, cold starts during the upcoming winter months won't be an issue. Settling into a constant idle, the CA is relatively smooth for a four-cylinder, and it revs freely. The deeper exhaust note is subtle, as a RS*r dual-outlet catback is the vehicle's only power modification. Acceleration is brisk, and the turbocharger adds plenty of midrange torque. With new spark plugs, fuel filter, and fresh oil and filter service, there is no scheduled maintenance required for the next five thousand kilometers. The manual transmission, a close-ratio five-speed, shifts without any hitch or grinding sounds and is geared well for US roads. The factory suspension provides plenty of ground clearance and keeps the chassis planted of intermediate and even large bumps. The power steering is smooth, yet communicative, and lets you know when you're approaching the limits of handling. Brake pedal feel is decent, and due to the s13s low curb weight, the clampers able to stop the coupe fairly quick. Cefiro alloys, in silver, are fashioned at all four corners, sporting new all-season rubber.

Clean, unmolested Silvias are getting impossible to find in Japan. The premium driving dynamics, durable drivetrain, and huge aftermarket make this Silvia a great candidate to modify or even just daily drive. With light miles and the right transmission, it's hard to deny this K's bang for the buck!
