In this clip, we discuss the weight of stereotypes and labels, and how they can affect how we see ourselves in society.

I share a personal view of how I struggle to identify as Black because I have a deep-rooted fear of not being seen as an individual.

From my experience, some people seem to have a certain perception of how Black and Brown people are, based on what they see in the media and that filters through into how people can treat us in real life.

It can be challenging having stereotypes placed on you and for people to act a certain type of way because of the colour of your skin or how you look like. But I am learning to not get caught up by the labels, or how people see me and trying to be comfortable in my skin as an individual.

Azeem @icarusprince shares that there is a lot of power in being a Person of Colour, because we get to explore these ideas of identity and it forces you to think about where you place yourself in the world.

He also shares that you don’t have to conform to what is expected of you and you can fight to be who you are, despite the labels and stereotypes placed on you.
