Abstract
Much of online learning since Covid lockdown was considered low quality, and the transfer of conventional lecture hall teaching to online formats proved highly problematic. Pandemic-era online learning agendas such as job readiness and digital literacies can be well supported with Open Educational Practices (OEP). OEP are digital and offline ‘collaborative practices in which resources are shared by making them openly available, and pedagogical practices are employed which rely on social interaction, knowledge creation, peer-learning, and shared learning practices (Ehlers 2011:6).' OEP and concepts of Indigenous Knowledge authority, consent, collaboration, situated knowledge in communities of practice can help to frame how successful learning in these areas can be cultivated.

This presentation will share some examples and outcomes of a fellowship with the Open University's Global OER Graduate Network (GOGN). This fellowship was a redevelopment and ongoing evaluation of a cultural studies class with over 500 students each semester. The focus of this developmental evaluation was to review the core unit in cultural studies and improve student engagement. The learning design and developmental evaluation process followed open principles from the beginning and incorporates principles of OEP in the design and delivery of not only this unit but a lager suite of core curriculum for CDU students. Student feedback showed significant appreciation for the learning design, and affective experiences of the deeper learning facilitated by OEP. Lockdowns allowed for new approaches to open engagement practices for learning and knowledges. This presentation shares successful OEP that were cultivated for more sustainable, caring, academic and professional capabilities as we continue to learn.
