Transition from KS2 to KS3 has been a focus for many school for some time and there are many reasons to get this ‘right’. This keynote will outline how thinking about how all elements of teaching can be developed through having a clearer picture of the whole curriculum. Leigh will consider how the different elements of the curriculum, including conceptual knowledge, working scientifically and enquiry, all play a role in supporting transition. She will share why having a real grasp of what this looks like across all age phases, regardless of where you teach, will support your teaching and learners’ learning.
The role of curriculum in planning and progression has been highlighted by OFSTED in recent years and an area that demands much greater consideration from a disciplinary viewpoint is Transition. Leigh as a teacher trainer and researcher, who is able to traverse both primary and secondary phases, will outline some of the considerations that we need to the greater focus on if we are to genuinely take transition seriously.
