To me training is not about the 'task' which humans often have an issue with as they 'must do' or achieve the task. I prefer to focus on the bird and watch its development and therefore its confidence. distance and number of flights mean nothing, what matters is the response and the happiness of the bird as it grows and understands what you are asking as in this training session where Tinker is asked to fly to a glove hand from a post and keep returning to the same post. Over the session her confidence grew a little, because Tinker can do it and fly to a gloved hand with confidence and repeat so her learning was at the end when she wanted to not come for food and instead I encouraged her by calling and moving closer, getting every last effort from her before she got her reward, to stop go home and get dinner.
