Chronic Liver Disease (CLD) is one of the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. CLDs include chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and fibrosis of the liver. Hepatitis C virus infection and alcohol abuse are the leading causes of chronic liver diseases. Moreover, alcohol and hepatitis C virus act together to cause liver damage. Superinfection with hepatitis A or B viruses in patients with chronic hepatitis C virus infection can lead to acute liver failure. The other less common causes of Chronic Liver Diseases include autoimmune diseases, use of certain medicines, exposure to toxic chemicals etc. Untreated liver disease may progress to a life-threatening condition.
