This was an exercise in time compression and the idea is to cut the footage of a character preparing their gear down to only show key shots. I had two pieces of raw footage to work with, one wide shot with two takes of the character preparing in full and one with close ups and handheld footage. I edited the full sequence down from around 1:30 to about 20 seconds and use a lot of jump cuts to compress the time. Before starting editing I chose the track I wanted to edit it to - Training Day by Nicolas Jeudy and Dark Fantasy Studio - and it really defines the timing of how I cut the footage.
After I had the basic edit finished I tried my hand at a bit of colour correction and colour grading using Vegas Pro 16's built in FX. It was a good learning experience, although I'm not 100% happy with the final result. In particular the three shots of holstering, loading and holstering the pistols have a very nasty switch in brightness which I tried my best to temper using brightness and contrast and colour correction, but I don't think it worked that well. This is an area I'll have to put some time into studying and I'm considering making the switch to Davinci Resolve, at least for colour grading purposes.
