Needles was commissioned by the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative for their Plants on Film Program. Filmmakers were challenged to create new 16mm films responding to the theme of plants, using one or more handmade filmmaking techniques.
This Covidian era film features needles of the spruce, balsam, and pine trees of Nova Scotia. The film was processed in needles and caffenol and uses the technique of photogramming.
