Undoing & Repatterning: cultivating a responsive practice for social change. The Ohio State University, 2021

Undoing and Re-patterning is a process-oriented research project that pairs somatics, anti-oppressive learning theory, and community engagement. I employed Rae Johnson’s Embodied Social Justice Framework of experiencing, reflecting, making meaning, and activating that intersects embodied theory with anti-oppressive learning theory to cultivate a responsive practice for social change. By researching the role of the nervous system in the body’s response to power and oppression, this research project analyzes the body’s process of somatic socialization through social, familial, and cultural conditioning. Sought to discern how the use of fractals in a somatically driven creative process portrayed the body as an essential and integral component of developing and co-creating a responsive relationship with change, personally and communally.
