When Jessica Bridgart discovered that after a major bushfire Xanthorrhoea australis are damaged but continue to grow, she decided to examine the Xanthorrhea Loop at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve in Canberra. She looked at the fire damage in Xanthorrhoea australis and studied the growth rings to date the fires. The method developed could help with understanding fire patterns before European settlement in Australia.
