Speaker: Kara Blond, Executive Director

The Capital Jewish Museum (capitaljewishmuseum.org/) is a new museum and cultural center under construction just blocks from the Capitol at 3rd and F Streets NW. The Museum is being built around Washington’s first purpose-built 1876 synagogue, which was moved to the site as its centerpiece. Executive Director Kara Blond will share with us plans for the Museum, news of its construction, its mission, and collection. The Museum will inspire audiences to connect across families and diverse communities, reflect on the relevance of history to today, and act on behalf of their values and the community. The museum will have an unconventional, experimental spirit — engaging visitors through immersive storytelling, dynamic programs, and hands-on interactive experiences that explore the city’s story through a Jewish lens.

As Executive Director of the Capital Jewish Museum, Kara Blond is leading the planning, design and construction of a new Jewish museum for the nation’s capital now under construction in downtown Washington. Kara spent the previous 15 years at the Smithsonian Institution, overseeing complex, transformative exhibitions at the National Museum of Natural History, where she served as Director of Exhibitions, and at the National Zoological Park. Kara holds a Master of Arts in Education: Learning, Design and Technology from Stanford University and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.
