Ethics in the Age of Smart Systems - 10th annual Symposium. April 21st, 2021
Presentation by Kevin Baum & Sarah Sterz.

The last years have brought widespread agreement that computer scientists bear moral responsibility for some of their research and developments. Hence it stands to reason that students of computer science and related subjects should receive ethical education. But how can lecturers achieve that and what are the most common hurdles?

Ethics for Nerds is a well-evaluated and award-winning lecture that is taught annually at Saarland University since 2016. The course has been continuously modified and progressively improved over the years. In this paper, we share our experiences with and best practices for teaching the basics of ethics to students of computer science.
