Turner Construction partnered with Carson School elementary students to design and build an outdoor community pantry that will house non-perishable food items, toiletries, and books. As a project-based learning school, the students identified the lack of accessible food sources in their neighborhood as an issue they wanted to tackle. They each had roles on this project – from Foremen to Environmental Services Engineers to Community Coordinators. The students have been learning about construction and various tools in their class for the last several months and they built a cardboard model to inform the pantry design. Turner hosted two virtual sessions with the students to understand their design specifications and review the blueprints. The final pantry design was unanimously approved by the students on April 16, 2021. Tuner staff and students held a build day on May 7, 2021 and will dedicate the pantry in a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 14, 2021.
