In October 2019 Lewis Hou from the Class of 2008 and a neuro-scientist based in Edinburgh returned to School for three days to deliver a series of Science Ceilidh workshops, teaching the basic principles of science through Scottish country dancing! The workshops were part of our Blue Coat For All organ restoration project, therefore Lewis, along with former physics teacher Mr Caulkin, delivered some fantastic workshops in the School Chapel based on the science and physics of sound, demonstrating how sound is created through a pipe organ. The 'slinky orchestra' was a real highlight, creating laser sound effects whilst singing along to the Star Wars theme tune being played on the Chapel organ.
In just three days Lewis and Keith ran Science Ceilidh workshops with 119 primary school pupils and 53 pupils from local specialist schools, as well as welcoming 40 younger and older neighbours from local charity Liverpool Cares. They also welcomed 50 parents, Old Blues and friends of the School and 50 Year 7 Blue Coat students.
