Behind the Door
‘A peek at the things that scare us, an experience in fear executed through the use of real testimony and a Virtual-Reality format’
We discussed potential ideas for this film, and debated as a group the things that interest us when thinking of the brief ‘A journey around your room’. We began to discuss the topic of fear, or ‘biggest fears’ in particular; this spikes an interest because our bedrooms are often the places where we are able to feel comfortable or safe. Taking the idea of ‘fear’ and placing it within the context of a room seemed like an interesting approach, so we moved forward with the idea and began to discuss creative technique. We were aware that some level of interactivity or ‘Virtual Reality’ was required in order to fulfil the brief of the project so we discussed the idea of interpreting a room of 4 walls; with each wall having its own design or theme related to ‘fear’. This quickly developed in to a creative interpretation of our own ‘irrational’ fears as we wanted to create something with at least some element of humour or relief from the scary elements. The idea to create doors which open and close was a concept that was taken well by the group so we used this as the final idea. The documentary students took charge of the photographs before handing over to the animation students for their part which was to create an animation that creeps out of the doors as it opens. The process of exporting all the different animation files in to a VR space was the last step in the process and it furthermore allowed our concept to become a reality.
