Author Blake Perkins is a seventh-generation Ozarker and an Arkansas native who grew up near Smithville on a cattle farm along the Strawberry River in western Lawrence and eastern Sharp counties. After graduating from Lynn Public School (now Hillcrest) in 2004, he went on earn an undergraduate degree in History at Lyon College in 2008 and a master's degree in History from Missouri State University in 2010, where he studied under the eminent Ozarks historian Brooks Blevins. Perkins earned a PhD in History at West Virginia University in 2014, where he worked under the guidance of Appalachian and U.S. working-class historian Ken Fones-Wolf. Since 2014, Perkins has taught history at Williams Baptist University in Walnut Ridge, where he also serves as Chair of the Department of History and Political Science. He is a member of the Arkansas Historical Association's board of trustees and a board member of the Friends of the Arkansas State Archives.
