Mark Wheat is the weeknight host at MPR’s The Current. He grew up near Cambridge, England, immigrated to the U.S. in 1983, and moved to the Twin Cities in 1992. He volunteered at the community radio station KFAI where he created Local Sound Department, which exclusively played Minnesota music. At the commercial station Zone 105, he hosted Across the Pond, a weekly show featuring music from around the world. Before joining The Current, he served as the Director of Student Programming at the University of Minnesota's Radio K. He joined The Current when it was launched in 2005.

Described as a Minnesota music hero, singer-songwriter Jeremy Messersmith came to Minneapolis in 1999 to study music at North Central University. Since that time, he has built a national reputation for elegant, literate song craft. His releases include The Alcatraz Kid, The Silver City, The Reluctant Graveyard, Heart Murmurs, the songbook 11 Obscenely Optimistic Songs for Ukulele, and the orchestral pop record Late Stage Capitalism. He opened for President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden on separate occasions, and his national “Supper Club Tour” combined potluck dinners with living room shows.
