4 years ago I did a residency at a thing called Folk Camp. It was such a turning point for me as an artist and such a wonderful experience. Because of how they set me up, I was able to work creatively for a whole week, in nature, while things like meals and shelter were taken care of. The project I effectively pitched to them was: to make a stop motion piece with a central character/puppet - outside in the open air - as the life of camp happens all around, and they (the character) takes it all in. I was so inspired by the music I heard that week and the community I saw unfolding around me. I met some of my now best friends that week. My goal was to capture some ephemeral emotion that I was picking up on while there. Although the film isn't very technical, and isn't exactly a showpiece I do feel that emotional resonance I was looking for. I even recorded the song that week with a makeshift set up in a cabin.
