For me, this was one of the seven wonders of the summer of 1971, with Procol Harum's "Simple Sister" and Grateful Dead's "Uncle John's Band" being two others. But this priceless rock gem was unique in that it was new to us in the United States, and thus dominated the FM radio airwaves, yet was actually a song over four years old. This was Pink Floyd's first single, released in the UK on March 10, 1967, but not included on their first album, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. It appeared for the first time to listeners in America in May 1971 on their first compilation album, Relics: A Bizarre Collection of Antiques & Curios (and to this day one of their finest compilation albums). Pure Syd Barrett, full of raw energy, this was definitely one of the band's best early works, I feel still.
