'Akarani Bono Awowa' is a collaboration between The One Minutes and Het Nieuwe Instituut.

Manuwi C Tokai (Akarani, Suriname, 1989) is a singer and artist and a human rights activist. She investigates the contemporary relevance of Indigenous knowledge and traditions. And the importance that Indigenous peoples take ownership of their own stories and histories. Singing is a form of action. Together with her aunts she stands up for the original culture of the Ka'lina Terewuyu people from the Amazon and for the stories of others that are not heard.

The One Minutes is a global network devoted to moving image.
The One Minutes Foundation produces and distributes One Minute videos from an artistic point of view, providing an international stage for people to create, engage and connect.
Every two months, The One Minutes puts out a new series of 60-second films that investigate how we perceive and engage with moving image. Museums and cultural organisations around the world subscribe to the series.
