What a surprise! In celebration of its 22nd anniversary, Madonna and her team decided to replace the SD, faux 720p music video of "Beautiful Stranger" to a new and pristine 1080p HD upscale, made possible by GDFLab or Topaz Lab (whichever they're using). For the SD version, I chose the 93:99 DVD rip so a big thank you to lennyleonard for providing me with the DVD rip. The Celebration DVD version can choke.

First off, the HD version seems to suffer the WIFLFAG issue: not presenting the video to its original aspect ratio. The SD version has an aspect ratio similar to that of films like The Shape of Water, Call Me By Your Name, and even Truth or Dare (with the small bars on the top and bottom) so when the HD version is up, I noticed missing information just on the left and right sides to fit with the proper 16:9 aspect ratio. That disappointed me because they showed Bedtime Stories in its original aspect ratio so why not do the same with the two videos?

Anyways, another notable difference is the censors on Madonna's nipples when the guy shows a slideshow of her pictures in the beginning, which included the see-through lace shirt from the Vogue music video. I guess JML was indeed remastered in HD but YouTube was being a bitch about it so we never got to see it during the day intended to be shown. To be honest, I don't know how her team will remaster Vogue since a good portion of the music video shows her on that lace blouse and YouTube, as you all know, is YouTube. Whatever.

Aside from the absence of film grain in the HD version, it has more clarity, more contrast, more vivid colors, and overall sharpness. Not much difference to point out.

Overall, it's a good remaster but still disappointed me that they never showed the video in its intended aspect ratio.
