This is a song about Oshun, the Goddess from the Nigerian Yoruba tradition, who embodies love and sexuality.
Story has it, that before humanity existed, the Supreme God Olodumare sent down to earth the 17 Orishas (deities).
Oshun, the only female deity, had been offended by the 16 who claimed they didn't need a woman around. So she left and hung out on the moon for a while.
When it became clear that the 16 had failed to create life, they begged Olodumare to bring her back.
Oshun came and brought with her the sweet waters (fresh water), along with her Divine Feminine gifts of creativity, sensuality, fertility, and abundance--life itself!
They say humanity and all the earth's beautiful creatures would not exist without Oshun.
