DOVETAIL, original title 'Nýr dagur í Eyjafirði', is the debut short film by Magnús Leifsson.
It won the Edda award, the Icelandic Film and TV award, for the best short film in 2019.
Dovetail follows Aron, a man in his forties, who has become trapped in a life that no longer properly fits him. In search of serenity, he imitates male stereotypes and dives into all the clichés of the material world. However, underneath all the success and the perfect appearance, lies something tragic and unexpected. Through an exploration of the meaningless void filled by consumption, this short film is a lyrical presentation of beauty, grief and sorrow.
The story is based on the poem New day in Eyjafjörður by Halldór Laxness Halldórsson.
