A GARÔTA DE IPANEMA (THE GIRL FROM IPANEMA)
1962, by Vinícius de Moraes/Antonio Carlos “Tom” Jobim (Piano). The Stan Getz recording (1965) featuring the vocal debut of Astrud Gilberto became an international hit. In the US, the single peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100, and went to number one for two weeks on the Easy Listening chart. It is believed to be the second most recorded pop song in history, after "Yesterday" by The Beatles. Helô Pinheiro, was born in Rio de Janeiro, on July 7th, 1945. She is a model, actress, businesswoman, journalist, TV presenter, & lawyer. The song was composed when Jobim & Moraes saw young Helô, aged 17 (1962), in the neighborhood of Ipanema on her way to the sea.
