Music, it is a shape of creativity we all like to listen to. From the tribes to the classical opera house. From blues to metal. From dance to breakcore. We listened to cassettes, vinyl and CDs and now we listen to algorithmic playlists.
Playlists that are generated, genres that are generated by the amount of what’s listened to. Generalizing music by creating vague inexistent terms. That inspired me to let Magenta.JS generate drumlines and melody lines. I played with the idea of text to speech but I wanted the midi-files to speak for themselves. The MIDI generators are the musicians and I am the amplifier and composer. I dropped the melodies in Ableton and played with musical patterns. I dropped effects, instruments and vocaloids on the refined stripes and dots that the MIDI generated.
I have uploaded the music to soundcloud and let an AI generate a cover. As a release, I recorded my video in Milkdrop to let it generate the music video.
Some may find the music chaotic, others beautiful. It’s subject to taste. How generated or generic is yours?
