Scotland is currently my home, but I've not always lived here. I was born in the UK but moved to the Falkland Islands when I was seven to live with my dad who works abroad. I would describe living over there as surreal and slightly bizarre. The school only had about twenty students in the entire building and the country was run by the British military. I even got to ride home in a tank on my very last day of school. We lived there for a year before coming back to Scotland. It wasn't long however until I moved yet again, this time to Qatar in the Middle East. We lived there for about two years. The country was very diverse and was home to many different nationalities. My school had a mix of students from all over the world, such as Europe, America, Asia, Africa, the UK and many more. Having this experience has giving me an entirely different perspective on life and the world around me. It's helped me understand and respect the many different types of people in this world and how important a good-hearted nature is in life.
I would describe myself as a very creative and hard-working individual, who delivers their full effort no matter what they are involved in. I am enthusiastic about working within the industry and extremely motivated towards this goal. Determined to excel in my career and in anything I may be involved in. I will always deal with any challenge that faces me in a positive manner and I thrive when under pressure. I am a very skilled problem solver and find it easy to express my ideas. I have been inspired to work in the creative industry by people like Quentin Tarantino. I feel his scripting and characterisation is outstanding and another inspiration is Martin Scorsese for his impeccable storytelling.
I am currently studying HND Creative Industries: Television (with multi-camera) at Edinburgh College. I have been interested in the art of film making since I was young. I started with little comedy sketches and moved on to dramatic short films which I wrote, directed and edited. This began my interest in film making and led to my desire to work in this industry. During my time at college I have also been involved in extra curricular activities working as part of an outside broadcast team. I've worked on a varsity rugby game as livestream supervisor/camera operator. I was also a camera operator at Knockhill racing and at the Edinburgh College graduation ceremony. In my free time I sometimes write short stories. I'm currently working on writing a full-length screenplay that I plan to make into a TV show someday.
I will contribute my creative and technical ability if accepted onto this course which in return will help develop my skills. The idea of studying film at university level is extremely exciting to me. I'm especially looking forward to adapting my film making skills to a higher technical standard and incorporating this within my projects. I believe that I will fit right in on this course as this is a career, I'm eager to pursue. My time at college has provided me with the skills necessary to succeed on this course. I have valuable knowledge and experience with using a variety of film equipment. I have used cameras such as the Sony NEX E4 50 EH, the JVC GY HM890, Panasonic 154, the Panasonic AG-DVX200 4K and the Panasonic AG-AC30. My knowledge and skill with editing video has vastly improved during my time at college. Primarily Premiere Pro but I'm now very familiar with the software and the key skills are transferable.
