This is a monologue from the play Fat Pig, written by Neil Labute.
I thought this would be an interesting piece for me to try due to the fact that the character of Carter and I are very different. Carter is an extremely insecure character that overcompensates for this by being very malicious.
Carter has great prejudice that spawned from his difficult childhood due to his struggles with his mothers weight and how that affected him emotionally and socially in his school years, this monologue is then you get to see Carter with his usual guard and persona down allowing the audience to see him at his most vulnerable.
I enjoyed this play for it had great themes of love and essentially is about acceptance and letting things go. The main character Tom's journey is about not letting his own insecurities get in the way of his happiness. As someone who's weight has fluctuated a lot through my own life and am now in a happy relationship I found this play sad but important as well as having a humor to the characters that in enjoyed.
