This tribute to Hannah Black takes on the upsetting trend since isolation began of memes about gaining weight during quarantine. Hannah Black is a new media artist that often deals with themes of feminism, race and communism in her work. Her work ‘My Bodies’ and ‘The Fall of Communism’ were the biggest inspirations for this video. Black uses humor and absurdity to tackle serious issues while threading a serious tone throughout. I did my best to do the same here, I wanted to deal with a very important topic in a humorous way that also created a moment of reflection into why we are so hard on ourselves and those around us for the shapes of their bodies. The way you talk about your body at the expense of another on social media is not harmless, it’s not harmless to your social circle and most importantly it is not harmless to yourself and your own health. Be kinder to yourselves.
