Today's Scripture: Matthew 21: 1-3
“If anyone says anything to you, say that the LORD needs them, and he will send them right away.”

The stories of holy week are full of random characters and borrowed objects. The week itself was an unpredictable roller coaster of meaning. Palm Sunday is fun and exciting, Maundy Thursday is emotional, Friday is unrelenting in its brutality and Sunday is the best.

Today’s story starts with Jesus sending two disciples ahead to “borrow” a donkey. It’s a weird request and they must have felt like criminals untying someone’s donkey and using it for the day. If anyone objected they were told to say, “the LORD needs it!”

Jesus regularly asks us to give up our comfort for his passion. I can’t help but wonder – what does the LORD need from you? And are you willing to give it?

What do you find hard to share with God?
What might Jesus request of you this week?

Eternal God, whose word silences the shouts of the mighty: Quiet within us every voice but your own. Speak to us through the suffering and death of Jesus Christ, that by the power of your Holy Spirit we may receive grace to show Christ’s love in lives given to your service. Amen
