We had the most beautiful weekend and start to our week. On Sunday, many of our families observed Palm Sunday, which marks the beginning of Holy Week. For Christians, Holy Week is the last week of Lent and the week leading up to Easter. I am sure those who celebrate Easter will notice it will look different this year than in previous years. When I was younger, I used to attend sunrise Easter service. I fondly recall watching the sunrise. It provided the most breathtaking background for our outdoor Easter service and is a favorite childhood memory of mine.
I say we seize the here and now as an opportunity to create new traditions. In the past, my family dressed in our dapper Easter outfits, attended church, and finished the day by enjoying the most delicious meal. This year, we are adding backyard croquet to our Easter Sunday tradition.
We will get up, get dressed, watch an online Easter service, eat a delicious meal, and then play croquet. I hope that in 5-10 years, we will reflect on how a new and fun family tradition was born, despite the circumstances. Traditions are important as they keep us connected to some of our most treasured memories while providing a sense of belonging. Will you start a new tradition this year?
