Each year the Burton U.S. Open happens at the pinnacle of progression of snowboarding, a sport fueled by creativity, technique and style. Jake Burton Carpenter, one of the most ingenious and forward-thinking minds in snowboarding, knew exactly how to facilitate the progression of the sport. Though I never had the opportunity to meet Jake, I was lucky enough to learn how to snowboard at an early age and grow to fall in love with the sport, thanks to Jake. I was also fortunate enough this year to be able to document the first Burton U.S. Open without Jake. To commemorate Jake’s passing and the immeasurable effect he had on snowboarding, masses mobbed down Vail mountain, and gathered around the halfpipe for the largest poach in the history of the sport. Musical artists, Thundercat & Big Wild, rocked the packed streets of Vail. I made this video as a way to thank Jake for his commitment to snowboarding. Everyday we are able to do what he loved most, HAVE FUN. #RideOnJake
