LOG LINE: A documentary tale about the 'breaking' of horses and people by their Communist masters.
In a small Russian town, a stallion, who was “broken” into dependence on people for food and shelter reflects on the fate of his masters – people who have been “broken” into dependence on government.
Kamchatka, Russia. In the 1980s Soviet Government financed building of a new town with all modern amenities. As soon as the first apartments were ready, excited residents of a nearby village started moving into comfortable housing. In the 1990s, when the Soviet system collapsed, government financing stopped and half-built town was left without heat and water. People were told to move out or freeze to death during winter. Then, abandoned Soviet farm horses moved in to the ghost town. When snow fell, horses starved to death.
WHEN SNOW FELL ON COMMUNISM, mixes archival and home movie footage, interviews and horse’s narration; reenactments and observational sequences.
