In Texas, big law firms use campaign contributions to win favor (and verdicts) from the Texas Supreme Court. This is the story of the people the system left behind and the man who's trying to fix it.
The Playground follows Salem Abraham—a trader and a self-described "math geek"—through his development from a believer in Texas' courts to the crusader who tried to fix them. Salem analyzes a decade of cases before the Texas Supreme Court and discovers that the justices overwhelmingly favor their own campaign contributors. His quest ultimately leads him to Austin, where he has a hearing before the state legislature, but the families the system broke are still struggling to pick up the pieces. The Playground cuts between their stories and Salem's, painting a full picture of Texas' deeply corrupt judiciary.
