Carl Th. Dreyer, one of cinema's greatest auteurs (responsible for "The Passion of Joan of Arc," "Ordet," and "Gertrud" e.g.) directed this short film for the Danish government around 1947. It was lost for 20 years after being made, initially labelled "not for public release." A film historian discovered the piece and confirmed its authenticity in the 1960s. The doctor is Carl Krebs. It is likely the first documented on-screen appearance of a radiation therapist (now called "radiation oncologist" in most countries). The treatment method seems to be brachytherapy using radium. The short film has an overarching message: get to a doctor ("don't wait too late") at the first sign of cancer so it can be found at an early stage.
