Synopsis
A veal has to be slaughtered by a butcher. But this veal is different than the others (but this veal is not like the others). It’s his ‘child’. The moment he decides to refuse the slaughter, he will be left only with the inspiration he gets from his art, his bouzouki, the only thing left for him in the future anyway.

Director;s note
From the first moment that I read ‘Take it and end it’ an extract from the novel ‘everything goes well against us’ by Giorgos Skabardonis, I felt the need to put these pages on the screen. First of all, the novel itself leaves you with clear cinematographic footprints that you should follow. The story and the plot carry within them the two basic elements of human existence. These are the blood and the violence of the slaughter on one hand and art on the other, which in this case is the bouzouki, the Greek string instrument, as the story refers to a real moment of the life of Markos Bambakaris, when he was a slaughterer.

(Markos Bambakaris: Syros, 10th of May 1905- Nikaia Attiki, 8th of February 1972. He is considered the ‘Patriarch’ of rembetiko, specie of Greek music that became famous because of the success of his recorded songs.)

My vision was clearly to look for the roots of a classic academic cinematographic narration followed by the way I understand cinema nowadays.

Until the moment I am writing these words, I am convinced that the story, the characters involved as well as the scenery in which it takes place are there to reinforce such an approach.
A cinematographic approach that doesn’t try to reproduce the personality nor the physical appearance of Markos Bambakaris in realistic terms but rather to take (have) a look(or to shed a light) at his eyes and soul as these were left as an inheritance in the common people’s conscious up until today.
