Evoking “Anabelle Serpentine Dance,” among the most famous of early motion pictures but one which survived only as a paper reproduction, "Ribbon Dance (in three minutes, in 4,000 frames, in 1280x800 pixels)" is a technological analysis of my film work “Ribbon Dance” (2016). Each successive format contains a structural echo or rhyme with its antecedent. Simultaneous but separate, images shift irrevocably between iterations. How do these systems of reproduction de-form images at the level of being? What is lost and what is gained?
