The 10th annual WCFF in New York, NY will be a virtual event October 1-31. This is due to COVID-19 restrictions. New York State and the City of New York have not allowed movie theaters to reopen. Each day of the virtual festival will have LiveChats where the audience can interact with filmmakers, conservationists and scientists.
SYNOPSIS
Batu and Dovchin are nomadic childhood friends united by a horse passed on at Naadam Games wrestling match. Their friendship is tested when the community faces an urgent water shortage and their beloved horse Anda falls sick upon digesting plastic. Confronted by drought and water shortages at a community meeting, the two friends argue over how to address climate change. Batu is a
traditionalist who affirms the solution as in the past is to dig new wells. Dovchin thinks more of the future, grasping long term impact upon their nomadic livelihood. A job offer lures Dovchin’s family to the city, but not before he creates a transformative gift for Batu out of the fallen horse who bound them together.
