In July 2021, Goethe Pop Up Seattle's Program Curator Martin Schwartz spoke with Sabine Herpich, director of the documentary “Art Comes From the Beak the Way It Has Grown” (German: Kunst kommt aus dem Schnabel wie er gewachsen ist), and Diane Knoll, Executive Director of Seattle-based Vibrant Palette Arts Center, about their work with artists with disabilities.

The Q&A is part of the monthly film series GERMAN CINEMA NOW!, presented by Goethe Pop Up Seattle in partnership with Northwest Film Forum.

ABOUT THE FILM:

At the Mosaik art studio in Berlin, artists with disabilities are able to produce their work unhindered. Sabine Herpich observes the artists in the course of creation and directs her gaze at the institution itself: its processes, staff, and spaces. Through the filmmaker’s quiet embeddedness in the world of Mosaik, this humanistic documentary, a top pick in the 2020 Berlinale’s Forum section, offers the viewer an immersive encounter with the mystery and miracle of creativity.
