Hello, my name is Rachel Dolan and I am currently a second-year M.F.A. performing arts student at the Savannah College of Art & Design, preparing to film my thesis film, “El Canto De Los Coquis”.
The process began when I decided I wanted to tell a Latinx story for my thesis project.
I contacted a dramatic writing student, and we decided to create a script that celebrates family, identity, and culture.
The story follows Elena, a young Puerto Rican-American woman, who journeys to Puerto Rico for the first time to rediscover the land, family, and culture.
However, the journey doesn’t go as planned when her Identity is questioned and she must come to terms with who she is and how others view her.
