Kazuo Okamoto's, the lead engineer for the Celscior stated about the UCF21 that "a tradition cannot be founded if you reject the first generation." As the Lexus LS400/Celsior was the first foray into the full-size luxury sedan market, and it was a resounding success. New for late 1994, this Celsior was built to be more luxurious, powerful and efficient than the 89-93 models. Finished in a classy Diamond White Pearl (051), and offered with only 71K verified miles, this sumptuous Toyota sedan is equipped with tan leather and a slate of incredible power amenities. Adorned by OEM rain guards, the body is in good shape other than some small dings, scuffs, and chips associated with normal use. These low mileage Celsiors make a great substitute for stateside LS400s and you certainly get some serious bang for the buck when you buy one. Just take a look at what low mileage LS400s fetch on Bring-a-Trailer.
The cabin layout for this Celsior emphasizes the slate of upscale materials, power amenities, and technology that were uncommon around the turn of the decade. The UCF21 and UCF10 have the same overall dimensions but the 21 has a much larger wheelbase. A slightly better highway ride is noticeable because of the stretch, but also way more interior space. Particularly hard to find in Japan, tan leather was optioned for the seating and door cards, making this example somewhat rare. A power-adjustable steering column, mirrors, locks, and windows are all standard equipment. Even the seats are powered and feature a button to increase lumbar support over long drives. Two front cupholders are available for the front occupants if they occasional libation when on the road, and recess back into the leather-covered center console if not being utilized. The material in both rows is in above average shape, with no rips holes or tears to speak of. Woodgrain accents permeate the dash and door cars breaking up the lighter light-colored plastics and carpets. A Backlit digital gauge cluster fully functions, and the dah is in good condition, and devoid of any major cracks or discoloration. The climate control and audio work as they should, although the LCD display intermittently works. The headliner is in good shape, as are the carpets. The OEM plus floor mats are included with your purchase, as well as the owner's manual.
Under the large sheet metal, bonnet sits a revised version of the legendary 1UZ-FE. More power, a longer wheelbase, and more efficient aerodynamics separate this platform from the prior design. Startup is as smooth as anything we retail and with a turn of a key, the 3968cc mill whirrs to life and is nearly vibration-free. A semi-synthetic oil and filter service has been taken care of so that the next ower need to schedule service for another three-thousand mile. When the throttle is depressed, the Celsior glides off the line, the driveline producing a constant even thrust. The transmission shifts like butter, and gearchanges are hardly felt in the cabin. Matte the right pedal and the Toyota sails up to, and above, legal interstate speeds without a sweat. The suspension is quiet and sturdy and happily compensates for large and small potholes and road imperfections. The ride quality rivals that of a Lazy Boy, and the tires have large sidewalls to further insulate from the road irregularities. Those all-season tires are brand new and have been mounted, balanced and installed by one of our trained technicians.
A standard-bearer of luxury, now and then, this Celsior is one of the most well-built cars ever produced. Its low cost of ownership, quality craftsmanship, and inexpensive entry price make this a can't miss Japanese Classic.
