The Healing Eye

When I started the "Healing Eye" project, it felt like a mad science experiment. During this time, I was beginning to use a combination of neural networks and two-dimensional animation techniques. My primary goal was to create a series of abstract looping animations that would be projected onto a wall. I produced the soundtrack as an additional texture meant to induce a trance-like effect with the visuals. The imagery is inspired by sacred geometry, mandala art, Ernst Haekel’s wonderful illustrations of artforms from nature, and the psychedelic imagery of visionary artists including Alex and Alison Grey.

After my father’s sudden passing in 2019, I started thinking more about the finality of death and the infinite. This led me to the idea of using looped animation to create trance like states in order to meditate and cope with grief. The piece comes from a place of grief and anxiety and is ultimately about the search for peace and connection in a chaotic and confused mind. The transforming design combines a kaleidoscope mandala aesthetic with the concept of the "third eye". The third eye is a concept discussed in religious contexts as “an inner vision and enlightenment beyond what the physical eyes can see.”
