Kyoto University of Art 2nd Year Thesis Film, 2019 (re-upload)
Arthur tries to buy candy from the neighbourhood candy shop, but when this doesn't go the way she planned, she takes matters into her own hands.
My thesis stop motion film at Kyoto University of Art and Design, Tam'rind. My research focused on the negative stereotypes of black women in the Golden Age of American animation and I wanted to create a film that did not use any of these stereotypes, as well as highlight my thoughts on micro-aggressions that I may experience navigating the world as a black woman(or even as someone who is 'othered'). I also wanted to use something from my own culture, and so I used a classic Jamaican sweet made from the tamarind fruit called Tamarind Balls (or tambrind in patois). I personally love the sweet and sour flavour and I think it also represents an element of life. I hope people enjoy this film and come away with a different perspective after watching.
