Stop Talking and Start Doing

"The best way to get started is to stop talking and start doing." ~ Walt Disney

Although it's good to visualize your future state before you get started.

You'll never get to that future state unless you just start doing.

Watch the video for actionable steps that will take you from talking to doing.

Hello, Marina Gabor here with some motivation for you today. The quote I have is from Walt Disney, and he said, “the best way to get started is to stop talking and start doing” stop talking, start doing is easier said than done, right?

It's easy to talk about what you want to do, what dreams you have. And you can visualize this future state, you can keep talking about it and talking about it. But when it comes to doing, that is a bunch harder. The myth is that we're going to feel prepared, and we're going to feel ready. And we're going to know exactly when we should start doing something. That's a myth. We just need to get started.

So make the plan. Don't go forward with no plan. But get started because you don't know what's going to work. What's not going to work, what tweaks you're going to need to make along the way.

What I've discovered is that if I make a plan, and I don't get started on it soon, that plan becomes stale. So if you're thinking about making a plan, think 90 days what can you do in 90 days, and then get started on it.

Here's a little framework that I use when I'm thinking about getting started, and not just continuing to talk about it, create a measurable plan for something that I'm going to accomplish in the next 90 days, I just want to plan it and do it.

Number two, develop two to five action items or tasks, things that you can actually check off that are going to help you get towards your goal.

Number three, estimate how long is it going to take to do each of those tasks. And here's the key, add a third to a half extra time. So if you think it's going to take you two hours, budget three, because things always take longer.

Number four, schedule time blocks in your calendar, actually block it off in your calendar, jot down the tasks that you're going to do for that time that you've allotted.

And number five, do the work. You made the plan, no, stop talking and get doing.

Now, here's one thing that you need to know, your mind will play tricks on you, pretty much guaranteed. I know whenever I make a plan and I'm clear headed when I made the plan, I have a logical reason for the things that I'm doing. And then it comes to implementation and my brain starts doubting, well, why are we doing it this way? Well, maybe that's not gonna work, and so on.

The key is when your brain starts playing those tricks on you stick with your plan, you were in a clear headed frame of mind when you made the plan, hopefully, and you have a reason for that plan that was well thought out. So just implement the plan.

You can reflect after 30 days or after 90 days and see what happened and then go from there. Going for 90 days to complete a plan is not so long, that if it didn't totally work out that it's going to wreck your life forever. But it will get a chance for you to see was the plan actually successful.

So here's my challenge to you. Think about the plans that you're still talking about and actually create a measurable plan for that something you can measure, create the tasks, block it in your calendar, and like Walt Disney said, “it's time to stop talking and start doing” so get started today.
