This is the first part of a segmented 13% run in Super Metroid.
For a description of the project, see: pastebin.com/x7e1wpiY
A brief description of this part is this is item collection. I collect all 13%, kill Phantoon and Kraid, and save in Bubble Mountain. This is because I decided to do PKRD route, for reasons described in the pastebin. It should technically be faster to do Maridia immediately after getting X-Ray, since you must exit Maridia from the bottom which puts you close to Norfair, but this requires doing Maridia without full equipment. There is little difference in timing (relatively speaking, given difficulty of the category), so one could prioritize either first (either death prone Lower Norfair, or technique heavy Maridia).
Some detailed comments on this part (in order, with comments both on the quality of the run and on 13% strats in general):
Ceres moonfall is fun. I have never bothered to learn any other Ceres strats, and I don't armpump so my escape is probably bad.
Randomizers do a lot of early game, so hopefully my early game is not absolute trash.
Lately, my Ceiling IBJs have been bad. So downtime I've been practicing those.
Yes, that is what I have always done in Terminator.
Kago the Kagos for good luck.
The jump through door for mockball felt bad. So I did a dumb backup. Don't do that. It's something I picked up, but it can fail pretty easily. Doing the usual in-room strat is much more consistent.
I go up to kill Phantoon because Moat Missile is annoying to avoid. Thus, it is the optimal second missile pack. I want it before going to Norfair. Since I am already up here, I may as well kill Phantoon (no later items will speed up the fight at all). This also creates a convenient second super pack.
I hate CWJ. Big reset point for this segment, since I wanted it first try. Note the shot immediately afterwards doesn't hurt (i.e., doesn't make you miss it if you would get it): Just remember to aim down before the ceiling so you will still always cross the gap.
I hate Phantoon. Literally my least favorite boss. Lately, I've been practicing stutter dopplers, to try to get my first 1 round. I messed up movement, and was then completely stunned I got that stutter doppler. So I totally forgot I should be paying attention to patterns and got lucky. Basically, Phantoon was final reset point for this segment: This was my first attempt I got a good Phantoon.
Note my weird style with saving the power bomb after Phantoon.
I want full health, since I will be doing early X-Ray. I could wait until after Varia, but since I am doing PKRD this would be slower. Hence checking Cac for if I have full health, and doing damageless Hellway.
Early X-Ray is literally free (yes, this is a joke).
Return from Early X-Ray is not free. It was safe for me to attempt it, since I could Pause Abuse with my Reserve Tank, even if I messed it up. I play it safe at the end with a damage boost off the Waver (not the fastest method). I also farm power bombs for no apparent reason.
I miss the transition into the Kihunter room. Apparently.
I have never learned any of the faster strats in Kraid. I don't care about them. I don't care about lag reduction. This is the strat I figured out as a child, before I knew how much health Kraid had or how much damage missiles vs supers did. I will never change.
In Maridia, I need more Reserve Tanks than Energy Tanks to R-Mode Clip to Botwoon. Thus, I need a second Reserve Tank. So I am now going to collect the Norfair Reserve Tank. If you do an Early Maridia route instead, you could choose to only get one Reserve Tank and just have zero Energy Tanks up until Botwoon...this would be hard.
At the start of the Cathedral hell run, I am doing full hell run strats because...muscle memory? I then realize and do an amalgamation of faster and slower strats. But, hey, you can see the cool bomb jump in pre-Cathedral.
I do a simple IBJ up to Norfair Reserve since it is easier and not that much slower. It was near end of segment, so I didn't want to do anything crazy.
Make sure to dodge the Missile before the Reserve Tank.
I head over to Speed to farm everything to full before saving. I will be doing a full health G-Mode into Lower Norfair, so I want everything full. Technically, I could damage down to below 25 health to setup for G-Mode entry (with just Reserves full). But I had to fill Reserves anyway, and I am doing segmented so I can just reset if I miss the G-Mode so I am not losing any time either way.
Note I pause not only to double check that Reserves are full (which I don't really have to do: Gamets are dropping nothing), but also to show the pause screen for 13%.
