The Catholic Church in Australia has initiated a new project to help the victims of natural calamities in the future. The newly formed national collaboration is called Catholic Emergency Relief Australia. The collaboration would offer assistance to other Catholic agencies in the country. The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, Catholic Religious Australia, Catholic Social Services Australia, and the National Catholic Education Commission are the organizations behind this new initiative. Other Catholic organizations are expected to join the collaboration soon. Dr. Ursula Stephens, the CEO of Catholic Social Services Australia said that “This is ultimately about us being more responsive in a crisis. This is faith in action and a call to follow our Christian vocation.”
Mexico’s annual Catholic pilgrimage draws 50,000 young people
Around 50,000 young people across the country made their annual pilgrimage to the monument of “Cristo Rey” in Guanajuato, Mexico. The event was organized by the Witness and hope movement. The young pilgrims entrusted their lives to Our Lady of Guadalupe recognizing her as the mother and intercessor of all Mexicans and as Queen of Peace. The statue of Christ the King was erected in honor of the Catholic martyrs of the Cristero War in 1950. The Catholic faithful suffered severe persecution during that time period.
