Sonia Witherow was suffering from brachial plexus injury, called Erb's palsy, due to a birth trauma. Her arm was internally rotated and had reduced movement, causing her difficulty every day. She explains how using a 3D model, specific to her anatomy, in discussions with her physician felt like a more visual, interactive, and more personalised approach.
6 months after the surgery, she is now able to externally rotate and supinate her right arm, and aestethically, it looks more symmetyrical to her left arm.
Benefits of using 3D models from a patient's perspective:
- More confidence in understanding the procedure and expected outcomes
- Feeling more involved in discussions with the surgeon
- Being more comfortable going into surgery
